Looking for Something?
I know what it’s like to get started. As a blogger myself, I was in beginner’s shoes once. Starting as a new mom who hired a website designer, I quickly discovered that I wanted to make it easy, convenient, and simple for anyone to start their own boss babe empire or develop their passion.
When you install a theme for the first time, the copyright credit at the bottom of the theme also known as the site footer – includes the Copyright, the year, and a link to Studio Mommy.
Changing the copyright credit in WordPress is really easy.
The following tutorial is going to show you how to update the copyright credit in your WordPress site through the PHP section of the Editor.
Although this tutorial will show you how to change one of Studio Mommy’s copyright credit… it should work on other Genesis child themes too.
IMPORTANT In this tutorial, we will be editing PHP code. It is highly recommended that you do not edit this code unless you are comfortable editing PHP code. With PHP, one mistake could break your site. If you would rather have us change it for you please contact us here.
Step 1 – Open the Editor
From the WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance and select Editor.
Step 2 – Access the Theme Functions page
On the right side of the page under Theme Files, select Theme Functions. From there, scroll down to Customize theCredits.
If you use a Mac you can press ‘command F’ or Windows, ‘ctrl F’ to bring up a search box. Type in ‘credit’, press enter and it will take you to the footer credit within the theme functions page.
This is what the code looks like now:
Step 3 – Copy and Paste This Code
Next, copy and paste the following code over the existing code:
Make sure to replace Your Site Title Here with your site’s name or whatever you would like it to say. Be sure not to delete any other punctuations.
Then click “update” to save the changes.
This is what the code will look like after you’ve copied and pasted the code above:
Step 4 – Check It Out
After you have saved the changes, it’s time to test it to see if the changes were made.
Go to your homepage and refresh the screen. You should see the updated copyright credit. But if you don’t and you’re using a cache plugin, you might have to clear the cache as well as your browser’s the cookies cache files to see the changes or wait about an hour.
And don’t worry about the year. That will automatically update every year.
Made a mistake and your site broke?
If you made a mistake and your site breaks (you see a blank white screen), you can contact your hosting provider and they can help bring your site back.
