Looking for Something?
I know what it’s like to get started. As a blogger myself, I was in beginner’s shoes once. Starting as a new mom who hired a website designer, I quickly discovered that I wanted to make it easy, convenient, and simple for anyone to start their own boss babe empire or develop their passion.
During the school year, blogging from home is quite easy since the children are no longer a distraction during the hours they are in class. However, it can become quite difficult to write content during the summer while the children are home. The younger children are, the more attention they need, which distracts you from getting your blog post completed. Although we love spending time with our children, we need to get our own tasks done at some point. What are some ways that you can keep your children from creating too much of a distraction?
1. Legos
Legos can keep children occupied for a great amount of time, especially if the children are making something at your request. Not only is this keeping the children out of your space while you blog, but it’s also exercising their imagination as they build elaborate constructs for you. Inside of a week, you could have an entire space port busy with travelers.
2. Art Work
A method that works for many parents is to have the child create various forms of artwork that can be pinned up on the wall. Children love to see your reaction to art and feel a sense of pride when you post it on the fridge or pin it up on the wall. You could go so far as to “pinning” it on Pinterest for family to see.
3. Gardening
Depending on the age of your children, you could set aside a piece of yard for their own personal garden. It may be best if you spend a few minutes getting the children started each time, but it could help you get some valuable blog time in.
4. Picnics
If you have a park nearby, why not send the children to play and pack them a picnic to enjoy? You could buy a cheap $1 basket from the nearest dollar store and set them up with plastic glasses and the whole nine yards.
5. Sidewalk Chalk
Sidewalk chalk is a cheap way to allow children to draw and design all kinds of art on the cement. You could even take a few minutes to show the children how to play hopscotch before returning to your desk to blog.
6. Bubbles
An easy way to help children chew up a couple of hours is by purchasing a large container of bubbles and sending them outside. This can be quite entertaining for children, especially if you have dogs that love to chase bubbles.
7. Kinect
If your children are to spend an hour or two playing video games, why not put them in front of the Xbox Kinect? Not only will they be greatly entertained, but they will get a great deal of exercise while playing. There is a variety of different games to choose from for the Kinect, and most tastes can be satisfied for entertainment.
Essentially, you need to find some kind of “busy work” for your children in order to allow you enough time to write your blog posts. While some may be tempted to sit the child down in front of the television with a bag of M&Ms, there are more engaging ways to keep him or her occupied. Some of these can actually keep them busy for several hours at a time. Find what works best for you and keep your level of frustration to a minimum.

Oh wow, I need to get my daughter a Kinect set!! I had that as a kid. Around here, I usually get some blog time if I set my daughter up with art supplies, Legos, Marbleworks, or her play kitchen. 🙂
