Looking for Something?
I know what it’s like to get started. As a blogger myself, I was in beginner’s shoes once. Starting as a new mom who hired a website designer, I quickly discovered that I wanted to make it easy, convenient, and simple for anyone to start their own boss babe empire or develop their passion.
Hi ya’ll! I wanted to share with you how to setup a WordPress blog or website. I get this question asked a lot. The thought of starting your own sounds pretty scary if you are not tech savvy but this tutorial will make it easy and simple so you can start immediately. Follow my easy step by step tutorial below so you can start today.
Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. If you purchase a product using an affiliate link in this post, I will receive a small commish at no cost to you. Mama’s got to pay the bills so thanks for your support!
Step 1. Choose a Domain Name
The first step is to think of a domain name you would like to use. If you already have a domain name then skip this step. If you need a domain name then get out your handy dandy notebook. Write down at least four or five names in case the first one you choose is not available. Try to keep your domain name short and simple. This will make it easy for your visitors to find you and type it in.
Step 2. Choose Your Hosting Provider
You can choose any hosting provider that supports WordPress but for this tutorial I’m going to use SiteGround(affiliate). They offer exceptional customer service and will help you get your site started if you get stuck.
Step 3. Choose Your Hosting Plan
Go to SiteGround(affiliate) then click on WORDPRESS HOSTING.
Choose your hosting plan. If you are starting a new site for the first time then it’s okay to choose the STARTUP plan. It’s totally up to you though. You can always upgrade later to a bigger plan when you need to. SiteGround will help you do that.
In case you are interested in the other plans:
The GrowBig plan is a great in value, including the option for multiple websites and Ultrafast PHP that greatly improves website speed.
The GoGeek plan is perfect for those with e-commerce and larger sites, or more geeky development needs like more server resources and GIT integration.
Step 4. Add your Domain Name to your Hosting Plan
If you need a domain then refer back to the list of names you chose in Step 1. Add your first choice domain name to the box that says “Register a New Domain”. It will let you know if it’s available.
If you already have a domain name, fill in the box that says “I already have a Domain”.
Step 5. Fill Out Personal Information and Checkout
Now you will need to fill out the personal information and choose the length of time you would like to use SiteGround services. The longer the amount of time the lower the subscription price.
Step 6. Setup a WordPress Site – Done!
After step 5 is finished and submitted, you now have successfully setup a WordPress site. Awesome right? SiteGround will email your username/password along with links to your site.
You can also log into your WordPress site by typing this into your web browser yourdomain.com/wp-admin/
Step 7. Make Your Site Pretty
Remove the boring basic WordPress design with one of Studio Mommy’s themes. This is probably the hardest part, picking which theme you want to use 🙂
My themes are easy to customize and are budget-friendly. I know sticking to a budget is especially important when you are first starting out. Not tech-savvy? I will be with you every step of the way!
Blog Themes – these themes are more blog based if you only want to blog.
Premium Themes – these themes are more website based if you need a website design. You can also add a blog to these themes too.
I do not want to give you false information so the best thing to do would be to contact BlueHost or Mommy Host and ask them. Check and see if you can cancel your account at anytime and if they offer a money back guarantee.
I have a question when I sign up for blue host and pick the amount I want do you still have to pay for your website to be live each month how does it work. And the WordPress theme I’m purchasing from you that doesn’t include a live website it’s but just the theme I’m buying. I already have a WordPress domin but haven’t made any payment through them yet .
I believe when you signup with Bluehost, you have to pay for a whole year of hosting. So you will not have to pay anything else for hosting until your anniversary date the following year. But, I suggest calling or emailing Bluehost to double check on this.
Correct, when you purchase one of my themes you are getting a design (a theme) for your website to make it look pretty 🙂
Bluehost is where your live website will be hosted on.
There are 2 different WordPress sites. There are sites on WordPress.com and sites on WordPress.org. If your current site is on WordPress.com then you will not be able to use my themes. Even if you upgrade your package on WordPress.com, you still cannot use my themes. In order to use one of my themes… your site must be on a hosted account (like Bluehost) and then install WordPress.org on your hosting account.
Great information! Thanks for sharing! I know I need to make the switch, but haven’t done it yet. I need to just take the plunge!
You are welcome 🙂
Very useful information. I didn’t realize some of this and you have enlighted me. Thank you!
This is exactly what I needed! Thanks.
Great post.
I have a question. What does the account plan mean? What if I’m only going to try it for a month? Is it possible?
Hi Kyla 🙂
Thanks for writing in.

Hey Nikki!

I hope this helps. It can be confusing.
