As a site owner, you want your website to be unique to make it stand out from other websites in the blogosphere. You can do that by starting with a premium WordPress theme, something that will bring out your style and personality.

You can also change the header and the default color scheme to match it with your brand.

But what if you want to take it a step further? You can change the font style of your theme to make your website really pop!

Change Your WordPress Font

All you need to change the font on your blog or website is a plugin. Here is the plugin I recommend you use.

Please note: this tutorial will show you how to use Google Fonts. If you want to use a custom font on your site please follow this tutorial instead.

Google Fonts for WordPress

This plugin is one of the easiest plugins to use. It’s the number 1 plugin I recommend to customers who would like to change the fonts on their site. There is no coding required and there are more than 800 font styles to choose from.

Here’s a quick tutorial I put together to show you how it’s done.

Step 1.

In the WordPress admin, click on “Plugins” >> “Add New“

Step 2.

In the search box on the right, type in “Google Fonts Typography“. When this plugin appears… click “Install Now” >> “Activate“.

Step 3.

Next click on “Appearance” >> “Customize“. On the left hand side of the editor, click on “Google Fonts“.

I’m using the Beyond Madison WordPress Theme for this tutorial.

Step 4.

Click on the first tab called “Basic Settings“. This is where you’ll change the font family for your content (body), headings and buttons. Simply select the font you want for each section and you’ll see the display on the right.

I used Cormorant and Open Sans. You can see the change in the picture below compared to the picture above.

Step 5.

When you’re done, click the blue button “Publish” then click the top back arrow to go back to the Google Font settings options.

Step 6.

Click on “Advanced Settings“. This is where you can change the font of the site title, site description, the nav bar, post/page headings, sidebar headings and content as well as the footer headings and content.

Select the fonts for the elements you want to change. When you’re done, click “Publish” at the top to save changes and the “X” to exit out of the editor.

Take a look at the photo below. The site description and navigation menu font has been changed.
