Looking for Something?
I know what it’s like to get started. As a blogger myself, I was in beginner’s shoes once. Starting as a new mom who hired a website designer, I quickly discovered that I wanted to make it easy, convenient, and simple for anyone to start their own boss babe empire or develop their passion.
I am loving my new WordPress blog! Whatcha think? Why did I move to WordPress? Well… I really had no intentions of transferring my blog from Blogger.com but if you are one of the readers that follow my blog closely (like everyday, hehe) you would have noticed about 2 weeks ago my site went away, disappeared, was gone. Actually it was suspended by Google.
I woke up one morning from a phone call by my husband. He said he tried to visit my site, saw an error message, and my site was gone. I totally freaked! Not only was my site gone but I could not access anything that was Google such as my Gmail, Blogger.com, and my Google Plus site. I was in panic mode. My whole life and business revolves around my website and email. Not having access to my email was the worst. I had client’s blogs I was working on and a install to do that morning.
So here’s the thing… Google, per their Terms, has the right to suspend and/or remove anyone’s account that does not follow their Terms. Or if they noticed strange activity with your account. Which is what happened to me. My account was suspended! Finally, by that evening I tried again to access my account and it said that Google noticed some strange activity on my account so they needed to verify that it was really me trying to access it. I was lucky to get everything back that day. Since this happened I found out that others were not so lucky and never got access to their Google accounts again. WOW! I never thought this would happen.
I quickly started designing my Self-Hosted WordPress blog. What is a Self-Hosted WordPress blog? Most are not aware that there are two different kinds of WordPress Sites. There is the Free WordPress.com site and there is a Self-Hosted WordPress.org site. WordPress.com is similar to Blogger.com in terms of you do not own or have any control over your blog. Just like what happened to my Blogger account. They can remove/suspend your account if they feel the need to without warning. You could loose everything – your blog, pictures, content and more! With a Self-Hosted WordPress.org blog, you own it and have full control over everything. No one can remove or suspend your account.
I’m still learning my way around my blog so if you noticed anything that looks out of place, please let me know. I noticed this morning that my Newsletter went out to everyone showing several of my older post and I’m so sorry about that. Hopefully that will be the only one.
Hi you’re site looks super cute! Congrats on the move to WP. I was wondering why the price for WP is so much more than Blogger packages. In General I’ve noticed this with most designers. Is yours that way because you have someone else doing the design transfer and blog transfer for you? Just wondering as I contemplate my choices.
Thanks Linda! Yes, prices are usually higher to design WP blogs due to the time it takes a designer. A designer usually spends twice the amount of time designing a WP blog versus a Blogger.com blog. WP is a little more technical and involved. A designer must be very comfortable with CSS, HTML, and sometimes a little bit of knowledge on PHP.
If I was designing clients WP blogs, including installs, and transfers by myself the price would still be the same. I have someone doing the installs for me because I don’t have a lot of time on my hands and the install is what takes the most amount of time.
I made the switch last week too for the same reason. I am still in learning mode, and playing with the layout and theme. I think your site looks great!
That’s why I call Blogger BLOGGGGGGRRRRRR! They are SO frustrating! I haven’t been able to manage my account lists for months. I had my hubby back up my blog the other day so I won’t lose the past years of my posts. I opened a WordPress account a year ago and migrated up to that point, but haven’t touched it since. You are inspiriting me to finish the migration to stay ahead of disaster!
I do love your new look. I need a makeover, as well. I really, really, really do…
If you happen to figure out why your newsletter went out with your old posts on it, PLEASE let me know. For months now, if I don’t have a new post that day, old posts (like 10 of them) are emailed! It is so frustrating to me and I, for the life of me, cannot figure out how to fix it.
Love the blog design and glad to see you moved to WordPress. The fact that Blogger (or Google) can just take away your blog is scary stuff, indeed.
It looks like only one email went out with some of my older post (thank god for that). I am using feedburner. If you are using the same make sure the “original feed” says this: http://www.yourdomainname.com/feed/atom
Yes, your blog looks great. So, soft and cute 🙂 That happened to me one weekend and I thought that I was going to lose my mind. I tried calling Google corporate, but they are not available on weekends … I went through every customer service and technical help area that I could find for them … my account was activated within an hour, but man was I stressed. I am glad your blog is back up. The same can happen with your WordPress, though in different ways … Make sure to have your security plugins straight.
Do you use the .com or .org wordpress because my blog doesn’t look like it could ever be anything similar to this. I do the .com but I had tried the self hosted myself but I kind of crashed my site and had to go back.
Hi Britney! I use wordpress.org and I used Genesis Framework with one of StudioPress’s Child Themes to design my blog. If you would like to make the switch to a Self-Hosted WordPress site (wordpress.org) and need help, please let me know.
I would like to switch and am going to get Genesis…I have a wordpress site, but it is the wordpress.com. Soooo…not sure what to do…do I go to wordpress.org instead??
I think Genesis only works with WordPress.org. Double check. If you switch to WordPress.org the first thing you will need to setup is a Hosting account and I have a few that I highly recommend http://amblogdesign.com/hosting-services/.
Hi there, we connected over Twitter. Love your design on this site! I too made the switch from Blogger to WordPress for my personal blog: http://www.aplusme.wordpress.com
Curious: Do you do the illustrations yourself (like the one of the woman at the top of your page?) If so, I’d LOVE to talk to you about doing some illustrations for my company Kalika Baby Inc. (www.kalikababy.com) for sellng BlowOut Blockers by MelzyLLC. Many Thanks! ~Jadine
I read this article and I panic a little. I don’t want my whole site deleted. :/
What if you buy the domain from them since theirs a option on settings to buy a domain or registered one you already might have bought. Can that still happen if I do that?

Thank you LaVonne! I had a lot of fun tweaking this design.
Love it! It looks fantastic…hopefully I won’t have to move anytime soon, but when I do, I am glad to have you to take care of everything!

Hello! I had looked into this, however I was wondering how I could do so without losing the few followers that I have (I just started). Ideas?
Hi Yoli! Your current blog will be redirected to your new WordPress blog. Anyone who tries to visit site will be taken to your new one.
