If you plan to become a Virtual Assistant (VA), one of the most critical ways to build a successful virtual assistant business, from day one, is to have a website. Having a website shows potential clients that you are a legitimate business. It’s a great way to earn the trust of a potential client.
We all know how crucial first impressions are. A website is your visual storefront, so to speak, for your online business. If your website is unprofessional and hard to maneuver, you will lose visitors, which also means you will lose potential clients!

Having a professional, user-friendly website will help convert those potential clients into paying clients. Before I get into the must-haves every virtual assistant needs on their website, I thought I would discuss why using social media platforms to grow your business instead of a website can be disastrous. I can’t tell you how many virtual assistants I see that market and promote their business on a social media platform and have no website. As a result, there is a chance that you will lose everything you worked hard to build, and here is why.
Think about number four for a moment. This point is the most crucial reason a website is essential for your virtual assistant business. Ninety-two percent of users use Google when searching for something specific (Source: Hubspot). When a user searches on Google looking for services, Google pulls up the services they think match closely to the query made. How many of them are social media pages? Yep, you guessed it, hardly any. Google shows users a legitimate website based on their search criteria.
Consider your home page your first point of contact with a potential client. The home page is where you will gain a potential client’s trust and explain in detail how you will help solve their pain points.
Answer these questions:
1. Who do you serve? (coaches, female entrepreneurs, bloggers, etc.)
2. Who are you, and how can you help? (Be sure to have a nice headshot of yourself)
3. What sets you apart from your competition?

Sometimes business owners overlook the importance of their about page. But trust me when I say, do not take this page for granted. Your About page is a great place to let a potential client see you on a more personal level. It’s a place to share your story and why you became a VA. Making a connection is essential. People want to see you as authentic and trustworthy.
If you do not include a services page on your website, be prepared to lose potential clients. Even though you do not have to include prices, you still need to take this opportunity to explain your services and how they will benefit your potential client.
How does the client go about hiring you? Make it easy and convenient for a potential client to contact you. Add a contact button to every page of your website. Nobody wants to conduct an extensive search mission on your website to find out how to contact you.
Testimonials show potential clients that you are an expert in your niche. People are more apt to hire you if they can see the amazing results you have produced for other clients. If you are just starting, ask colleagues that you have worked with in the past to write a testimonial or a friend you have worked for in the past.
Too many virtual assistants miss a huge opportunity to connect with their clients and potential clients by not having a blog on their website. I mean, why would you not have a blog? A blog is a place where you can write about the skills and services that you offer. It is a great way to showcase your knowledge and expertise in your niche. You can read more about having a blog on your website in this article, Five Reasons Why A Blog Is Essential.
If you have been a VA for a while, I am sure there are valuable resources that you use to help your business run smoothly. Why not share these with potential clients? It’s also the perfect opportunity for you to share your affiliate links. I have a video, Affiliate Marketing Explained For Bloggers, that will explain all about affiliate marketing. Here is my Resources Page.
Lastly, I thought I would give you a quick rundown of items that will be helpful before beginning the website creation process. Have these items in place before you start.
