If you have been blogging for quite some time, then you have probably experienced blogger burnout at some point. When blogger burnout sets in, we start feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. We struggle to even get out of bed some mornings. Those negative thoughts start filling our heads, and we are two seconds away from just quitting and throwing in the towel. All bloggers experience this at one point or another in their blogging career. Here are a few tips to show you how to avoid blogger burnout before it creeps in.
One of the first things that we should consider is to be realistic. Schedule daily tasks that we know we can complete without feeling flustered. Set small goals for yourself and work your way up to larger ones. If you are running your blog solo, then plan a week’s worth of work. Use a scheduler and schedule tasks ahead of time. Consider hiring someone to do the daily, repetitive tasks for you. Asking for help does NOT make you a failure.
A good night’s sleep can make a HUGE difference. Be sure and get a good night’s rest. Rest is essential for the body to function and focus at full capacity. A good night’s rest will help tackle the day and give you the energy that you need. A question to ask yourself is when do I have the most energy? The most productive time for most bloggers is the early morning hours. Choose the best times during the day that you are highly motivated.
A change of scenery can help you rejuvenate. Take short breaks during your workday. Take the full hour for lunch and rejuvenate. Sit outside and take in the view. Breathe in the fresh air. If nothing else, leave your office workspace and sit and close your eyes for a few minutes.
Take time off to relax and do things you love. Schedule days off during the month, even if it is just a long weekend. Your followers will understand! Add a day or two for downtime to your calendar and work tasks around those days. On the scheduled off days, spend time with family or go shopping, anything that helps you relax. But do not do anything related to your blog. You will be surprised how motivated you are once you come back from a break!
Recuperating is important. We all need time to rid our bodies and minds of the stress and anxiety and get back to YOU. Step away from your blog. Schedule a week to go on vacation or do things that you love to do. But, for this to work, you have to step away 100%. Your followers will understand and support you. I promise you this. You will feel totally rejuvenated and ready to get back to your blog!
Another significant way to relax and avoid unnecessary stress is to take social media breaks. Yep, put that phone down and walk away. You will be surprised how much time we consume scrolling on our phones. Turn off those notifications. One negative comment or a not so positive news article can cause us to go into shutdown mode. It can ruin our entire day. Trust me; your followers will understand and support you 100%.
Say “NO” more. As female entrepreneurs, we sometimes feel we must please everyone. But ask yourself a few questions. How will this project benefit my business? Will scheduling this project, even though time is limited, help my business in any way? Or will it just cause unnecessary stress and frustration? Do not cause extra stress by agreeing to a project when you absolutely have no time on the schedule, especially if it required putting your business priorities on the backburner.
Seek the support of other bloggers. I guarantee you they have useful tips on how to avoid blogger burnout. Bloggers are incredibly supportive of other bloggers; I have experienced it firsthand. They are more than happy to share tips that have helped them. Do not be afraid to reach out. The blogger community is a tight-knit group and will support you when you need support!
Lastly, know this. You are not alone. Blogger burnout is common, and every blogger has experienced it. Learn your body’s signals and realize when it is time to step back and take a breather. Schedule time every month for doing things you love. Step back from your blog and take time to rejuvenate.
