What does it mean to be GDPR Compliant?
I’m sure that you may have heard about GDPR by now. I’ve been receiving a ton of emails from other business either explaining what it is or informing me on updates to their policy’s page. We’re also taking the steps to be GDPR compliant.

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is Europe’s new regulation law on data protection and privacy for Europe citizens. Even though it’s an EU law (I’m located in the US), we still have to comply if their citizens are visiting and shopping on our site.
Why is everyone in a panic?
Because of the fines we could possibly have to pay. But don’t panic if you are. The EU will give you a few warnings before they will fine you. The fines for not complying are up to 4% annual global turnover or €20M (whichever is bigger). Crazy right!? Especially for small businesses and simple bloggers. I believe this law is really meant for huge companies like Facebook and Google but we all still have to comply.
This new EU law takes affect on Friday May 25th 2018. The deadline is upon us and I’m working on last minute details to our privacy policy page, subscription service, and going through my plugins to see if any of them will affect me with this new law.

I’m still in the works on fixing my site. I had to transfer to a new host to get SSL security since my old host wanted to charge over 100 bucks. Nice they are jumping on the GDPR cash cow. So I transferred, all my images went missing. I disabled my newsletter and any plugin like analytics until I know further what I need to do. I already have a privacy policy but I think it’s too complicated and now have to fix that, along with terms of service. I think I only get 4 EUR visitors LOL but man this has been a nightmare for me. Glad to see you’ve taken the steps. What bloggers don’t realize yet is that even our themes and every plugin we use has to be somewhat compliant in how we use them. This includes using things like Wordfence which tracks your ip address. It’s a lot to take it.
Agreed. I’m very overwhelmed to. I have to count on the plugins I’m using to be GDPR compliant. I know some of them have made some changes and others still haven’t. The best advice that I’ve been giving to everyone is to disclose, disclose, disclose. Be honest and upfront about everything, from your reason why you collect anyones info and how you plan to use it.
